Terminus vs. Lovable

Lovable is an AI app builder: you describe a product, it generates a working web application — frontend, backend, database — and you iterate in plain language until you ship. It is one of the fastest ways to go from idea to deployed app.

Terminus also lets you build and ship apps, but they land somewhere different: inside an operating system. A Terminus app runs in a desktop window, stores its state as files in the user's own data directory, and sits beside agents and skills that can work on the same data. You are not shipping an island — you are publishing into a system.

How is Terminus different from Lovable?

Choose Terminus when

  • You want your app to live alongside a user's files, agents, and other apps rather than on an island.
  • You want the platform to handle auth, storage, model access, and metering so the app ships no server.
  • You care about users owning and exporting their data.

Choose Lovable when

  • You want a standalone product with its own domain, brand, and database.
  • You are prototyping a startup's web app, not a workspace tool.
  • Prompt-to-deployed-URL speed is the thing you are optimizing for.

Questions

Is Terminus an app builder like Lovable?
Building is one part of Terminus: the CLI and Studio scaffold, run, and publish apps. The difference is the destination — Terminus apps install into an operating system with shared files and agents, while Lovable ships standalone web apps.
Do Terminus apps need a backend?
No. Apps use the Terminus SDK for collections, object storage, user data, notifications, and connector calls — the platform brokers all of it, and provider credentials never reach app JavaScript.
