Terminus vs. Replit

Replit is a cloud coding platform: an editor, runtimes, databases, deployments — and an AI agent that builds software for you from a prompt. Its center of gravity is making software, from first line to hosted URL, in one place.

Terminus's center of gravity is running work, not hosting code: a desktop where agents execute on schedules, apps operate over your files, and a marketplace distributes what people build. Developers build for Terminus with a local CLI, but the thing they publish lands in an operating system other people use, not on a URL they maintain.

How is Terminus different from Replit?

Choose Terminus when

  • The deliverable is ongoing work — monitoring, triage, digests — rather than a deployed service.
  • You want your tool installable into a workspace users already have, with data they already own.
  • You want agents, apps, and skills composing over one file system.

Choose Replit when

  • You are building and hosting arbitrary software — APIs, sites, bots — end to end.
  • You want a full IDE with collaborative editing and instant deployments.
  • You need language runtimes and databases under your direct control.

Questions

Is Terminus a coding platform?
No — it is an operating system for agents and apps. There is a real developer surface (a CLI, local dev, publishing), but the product it feeds is a workspace, not a hosting service.
Can Terminus run code?
Agents and apps can execute code through the platform's managed code-execution service, and the desktop has a terminal — but Terminus is not a general hosting platform.
